This August 2008 set of photographs are of the Telegraph Station at Alice Springs. This was one of tweleve repeater stations built along the 3178km Overland Telegraph which, after less than two years of construction, was completed on 22 August 1872. The line linked Adelaide with Port Darwin connecting there with the undersea cable to Indonesia and thence to the rest of the world.
